Install the PromptSpotter extension
Adding PromptSpotter to a browser takes about a minute. You install once per browser profile, sign in once, and you’re protected on every supported AI tool from that point on.
Before you start
You’ll need a PromptSpotter account — if you haven’t created one yet, sign up at promptspotter.com/login (no card required for the free tier). The extension currently supports Chrome and Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave, Arc). Firefox and Safari are on the roadmap.
Install for yourself
- Open the Chrome Web Store listing — we’ll post the direct link here as soon as the listing publishes (it’s in review now). In the meantime, search “PromptSpotter AI DLP” in the Chrome Web Store.
- Click Add to Chrome, then Add extension when prompted.
- Pin the PromptSpotter icon to your toolbar so you can see status at a glance — click the puzzle-piece menu and the pin icon next to PromptSpotter.
- You need a setup link to connect the extension to your company. If you don’t have one yet, sign in to PromptSpotter — you’ll create a setup link in the onboarding wizard, then click that link in this browser.
- Once you click the setup link, the extension auto-configures — you’ll see “All set” with a green check. No typing, no token to paste.
Confirm protection is active
Open ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any other supported AI tool. The PromptSpotter icon should show a green dot, indicating that the page is being watched. Try pasting a fake API key (something like sk-test-1234567890abcdef) into the chat box — you should see a warning before you can send it.
If you don’t see a warning, check that the extension is enabled at chrome://extensions and that you’re signed in. Still nothing? Email info@promptspotter.com with your browser version.
Install from an admin setup link
If your admin sent you a setup link, the install is even shorter:
- Click the setup link in the email or chat message.
- You’ll land on a page that either opens the Chrome Web Store directly or walks you through the install.
- After install, the extension recognises the setup token and signs you in automatically — no email round-trip.
Admins: see Invite teammates for how to generate those setup links.
